Hmm...movies I'm looking forward to....? I don't watch a ton of modern movies. I am looking forward to when Cinderella comes out on DVD, but otherwise, I don't believe I've got many other movie excitement...

Me either, but I *am* excited for it. I've seen Frozen, and enjoyed many aspects of it, but for conviction reasons, don't watch it anymore.

I don't mind at all. I don't believe magic is from God - even though many people will say there is 'good magic', but I believe there really is no such thing as 'good magic' because all magic would be from Satan. There are two "power sources", if you will, and if it's not from God, it's from Satan. We can mask it, and make magic good and happy, but when it comes down to it, it's not really godly at all. The Bible strictly warns against all forms of magic - witchcraft, sorcery, etc. And the magical powers Elsa has are very strong, and make me very uncomfortable. I also don't care for how she dresses, how she acts, and how she goes from good, sweet, gentle and modest, to angry, letting it all go, and immodest, and we're supposed to cheer her for that. I get that it was because she felt she was trapped, and she was "letting go", but we need to go to God when we feel trapped, not turn to magic. It's really hard sometimes, because magic is in eeevveerrything. And every Disney movie. =/ But I'd rather please God than man. I'm sorry if this sounded like I was spouting - I'm not, it's just something I feel passionate about and come across frequently.

Yea i understand where your coming from. And i totally respect your stands on the subject, you bring up A Lot of solid points! And yes there are very few Disney movie without "magic" But if it is okay can i ask you (and i am not trying to undermine/change your views on the subject or the movie Frozen) but the movie Cinderella has a "fairy godmother" who uses her "magic" to send Cinderella to the ball. I just want to know, if you feel that strongly about the subject (i am not trying to change your views. I just want to ask) what are your views on the Cinderella movie?

I definitely understand your question, because I thought about that, and no, I'm not at all offended by it. I do not agree with the fairy godmother and magic and all that, so I really am not sure how the movie will sit with me. I will be honest and say that this is an area I struggle with - I love fairy-tales, but I also want to honour God, obviously. My curiosity in wanting to see Cinderella is to see how they handle the whole thing. It could be very well done (and I've heard a lot of praise for it, even among like-minded believers), and that would great if it is, but of course if it's not, and God convicts me on it, that would have to go on my list of 'no's'. (And of course, if He convicts me before even seeing it, I will honour that too - which He's done with "Brave" and a couple others. With Brave, we really wanted to see it because of the whole Scottish aspect, which we love, and the archery involved in it. So, it was a hard one too). Thank you for being respectful and polite and understanding - I don't get that very often, so I appreciate it!

Well thank you @bladespinnerraeo for your honesty and kindness. Most people get mad at me when i ask questions like this. And do be honest there was a point in my life where i struggled with this myself (one of my favorite shows is the 2002 He-Man which has Magic in it). Don't worry, with brave you didn't miss anything. I watched it with my family and was absolutely shocked at the leaves of disrespect from the mine girl. She was any more disrespectful to her mother then Ariel was to her father in the little mermaid

It's sad to see that in so many movies. Disrespect in movies just teaches kids to act the same way. =/ And you are always welcome to ask questions - I don't mind at all.

yes it is sad that many of them are like that and are teaching kids that disrespect is okay. Some even go as far to say that it is the parents the lean something not the disrespectful kid *cough the little mermaid cough*. And thank you BladeSpinnerRae for being the first person to post your thought on a movie here in Movie Talk!

I haven't seen too many common movies, I don't think, so I probably won't have too much to discuss...XD I watch more of the British old BBC movies, like Jane Austen/Elizabeth Gaskell ones. There are some animated ones I like though, like Tarzan, and Treasure Planet.

It's been a couple months since I last saw Treasure Planet, but yes, for the most part, I do enjoy it. I really like the music from it. What are your thoughts on it?

I liked it. I thought it showed how a father is needed in a family, without a father Jim (the main guy) was on the wrong side of the law and was headed down a dark parh. But once he meet the cyborg guy, who became somewhat of a father figure, he truned his life around because he found that nercher he needed from a father. And even though the movie does not go into depth it shows just how a father is needed. God designed the family with a father and a mother for a reason, without one of them the family unit is thrown off. And mothers are equally important as fathers, but in this day and age we are losing the family unit. With absence fathers or mothers, families thorne apart by devours, and now the new laws on marriage. As Christians we need to fight to keep the family unit safe (but i think we are losing that fight) or else we will see more and more young people on thay wrong path. But besides the family we as Christians should also keep preaching the gospel to those lost souls

Wow, Aiden, that is quite profound, and I couldn't agree more. It really is the truth that when the family unit is unbalanced, the whole family reacts. We've noticed that in our family even in seemingly smaller matters- if my Dad is struggling, we each are struggling in some way too. We actually studied this topic as a family; my Mum had read a bunch of books on the subject, and we learned a lot in that area. My Dad had read the book "Family Man, Family Leader" and that really aided in our growth/learning. It happened right at the time that my older sister met who is now her husband, so we were teaching him too, and it's really pulled us all together. It's very encouraging to hear you say all that. We don't hear that much here where we live. In fact, you say the word 'submissive wife' and you get the eye-rolls! But that's okay - the Bible says if we follow Him, the world will be against us.

Can I ask how you've come to learn all that we've talked about so far? Not trying to pry, I just find it interesting.

sure BladeSpinnerRae , I have been taught a lot by my parents (even thought they are not perfect parents) and what they couldn't from lack of knowledge on the subject (if they didn't know then we learned together) I learned by watching/listening men of God talk on the subject. Men like John MacArthur, Voddie Baucham, Paul Washer, Ray Comfort, Ken Ham and other such men (I can't remember all their names). The shows that introduced me to these men is called Wrenched and it is hosted my a tall guy named Todd Friel (really great show I highly recommend watching it at lest once if you have Direct TV it is on channel 378 I believe) here is the link to their wed site www.wretchedradio.com/ of course this all goes with my bible reading and helps me understand the deep theological stuff

Oh that's funny - first of all, my Dad's been to a conference that featured Kirk Cameron, Ray Comfort, Ken Ham, and Todd Friel, so he brought home a lot of their material. He even got to talk with Ray Comfort. I know for sure we have Todd Friel's "On the Shoulder's of Giants", and then a bunch of other stuff from them. A friend actually just mentioned Paul Washer's teachings - I hadn't heard of him before, but she was very encouraged by him. My Mum had gotten into Voddie Bauchum's books when she was going through Vision Forum's and NCFIC's materials. Have you heard of either of those two organizations? I know what happened with Doug Phillips was sad, but the material through them was still really good. I even got my tomahawks through Vision Forum. ^.^ Well, that's pretty funny; it's a small world! Thank you for sharing.

Oh that that is great the you guys as a family studied that subject! And yea when you say stuff like "submissive wife" and over here in California people with be like "Your oppressing women! Your a women hater!" But the Bible already has told us that they would hate us for they already have hated Jesus and no slave is greater then his Master

That's cool. I will have to look up Paul Washer. Another absolutely amazing preacher is Dan Mohler - seriously, you should look him up. I have never seen someone *so* on fire for God with absolutely no care for gain for himself. He really lives the 'To me, to live is Christ and to die is gain". I pray I can get to that point someday.
Haha, isn't that the truth. It's crazy how so many rise up against women in the home and how women think that they're slaves if they obey their husbands, but free if they work under other men in jobs. But that verse you mentioned is very correct. And we should rejoice that we are 'participating in Jesus' suffering'. Sometimes that easier said than done. Oh to be more Christ-like!

oh I have heard of Dan Mohler! another good one is Art Azurdia. Yea it's crazy, and yes participating in suffering for the sake of Jesus is wonderful! because without Jesus I am a monster with a destructive nature that would harm all those around me and myself, it is only through Jesus (and Jesus alone) that good things come. for He is the only one who can forgive our sins (mine included) and reconcile us back to the Father, so then what is a little suffering in this life compared to the eternal glory of the Father that we will see thanks to Jesus Christ

Really? That's great. I haven't heard of Art Azurdia before. So true for all of us. "If there's anything good in me, it must be You" - that's a song, and I love the lyrics, because it's truth. I am amazed by His glory and grace. I'm melting from the heat - it's about 120 degrees in usually cold MN - so I'm going to get out of our cramped little computer room and find a breeze somewhere. Otherwise I'd type more, but I can't take it any longer....!
