And, by extension, all other novels Middle Earth. First of all, because Middle Earth is awesomeness defined, and it must be discussed wherever fantasy is discussed. Also, because Jaye wouldn't have written the Makilien Trilogy if it weren't for Middle Earth, and if it weren't for her trilogy, she might not have undertaken Ilyon!

The Lord of the Rings! Yes, a thread for this is necessary.
Has anyone else on here read the Silmarilion or the other books of history?

I haven't gotten to read any of the other books, though, unless you count The Children Of Hurin. Other than that, I've read the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, Tales From The Perilous Realm, and Letters From Father Christmas.

I haven't read the Children of Hurin... and I don't really plan to, though I hold a very deep respect for any Tolkien fan who reads all the way through that book. The short version was enough for me. Do you have a favorite era, story, or character from The Silmarilion?

I had the Silmarilion from the library, but then I didn't get to it fast enough and had to return it back to the library. But I do mean to get to it; I've heard many good things about the story.

I haven't made it through The Silmarilion, but I did read Children of Hurin. I liked it. And obviously The Hobbit and LOTR.

I love The Lord of the Rings! I've read the books like a dozen times, and The Hobbit a few times, and The Silmarilion once (Though I plan to re-read it) and I want to read the Children of Hurin! And I won't even say how many times I've watched the movie. >.> Because that's not even funny. XD (Not Middle-Earth-ish, but has anyone else read his children's book Roverandom?) (Kendra, those LOTR emoticons. <3 I saw them and I was like "That's it! I'm joining!". Seriously, that's what pushed me over the edge and made me join.

Isn't Roverandom awesome!? And it has the second happiest ending ever! (I'm the happy ending person.)
Yup, The Lord of the Rings should be in the dictionary for EPIC.

Meh, I won't kill you - but I WILL be shocked! How can you... Never mind. The Silmarillion is good, although it's a little hard to get through. It's a history book.

What?! *violently encourages you to read it* You won't regret it if you do. Both the Lord of the Rings and the Silmarilion are good. The Silmarilion will take a chapter or two for you to get into, though (it helps to have the world created, you know?). But, seriously, read The Lord of the Rings.

You can't make me. I may one day, but I can't be talked into doing somethings. This is one of them. Not having read them also means that my book can't be rip offs of them. Right?

I can't imagine having not read LOTR. It was a chapter of my childhood. I don't remember how old I was exactly when I read (i.e. listened to them on book on tape) them ... but I think it was following the release of the Two Towers movie. And I'm currently twenty, so someone who knows when TT was released can do the math.
I need to read the Simarillion. But it's kinda big, and I'm kinda intimidated. (Plus I need to get my hands on a copy)

I'm surprised you're still alive. That much epicness in such a concentrated dose would be enough to kill ten full-grown men.

Well, I've been reading since I was four, and it hasn't killed me yet. I must be stronger than ten full grown men As a side note, my sister says that that isn't true. Which part, I'm not entirely sure about.
