Well Scarlet is mad at her mom & dad bc they r trying to protect her bc she is a princess (but doesn't know it) so she runs away with her cousins (Rapunzel and Snow White) That's all I have but I'm only on chapter 4. To be entirely honest, none of my stories have made it past chapter 4 yet, and several of them aren't even there (my family says that I should try focusing on one story at a time...) so you're doing terrifically. Hmm... Do either Rapunzel or Snow White know that Scarlet is a princess? Because if so, and if you don't want Scarlet to know anything, you might try switching to one of their perspectives and letting the audience know what they think about all of this - unless your readers don't know she's a princess either, in which case never mind. If neither of them know and you want Scarlet to, perhaps you can add in some of Scarlet's confusion over her parents' protectiveness, and she can talk with someone about it and begin to get suspicious. Adds to the action/suspense/tension of the scene, I think. Also consider: where did they run away to? Are you going to insert anything similar to Ents in the LOTR, talking plants - or talking animals, like Narnia? They could tell her of some sort of old prophecy, and out of curiosity she begins comparing it to her own life and realizes that so far, she's fulfilling it. (Animal/plant type would depend on their location. They could be in a desert from one of the Arabian tales, in the middle of the Beast's gardens, or stuck in a school library in Los Angeles. Big difference.) Or you could leave out talking vegetation and animals, and have another fairytale character (probably an older, wiser one) who suggests something to Scarlet. Wow, I got carried away, lol! Hope that some of that helps. No problem the ideas are really cool. It's in a modern world (not our world just with a more advanst) so it limits my mid-evil type things. Anyway I think that I might make her find something with her name on it like a old scroll or somethink like that. Thanks for all of you guys helping!

Ooh! That sounds like a fun twist. My own is "What if the evil fairy declared true love's kiss to be what put her to sleep?" That'd be awesome, FairyTaleArista! So much competition!

My Sleeping Beauty twist is...spoilery. But it started with "what if the enchanted sleep wasn't exactly a bad thing" and took off from there. And yes, Addy, you're a fast writer. Maybe these other writers will convince you my jealousy is not misplaced.

*nods* Before I found out about the contest, I was thinking of all the Fairytales it could be, and I narrowed it down to Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Sleeping Beauty, so I tried to find out retellings for those--and then I realized I had already jotted down a Sleeping Beauty Retelling a while ago. I'm working on a story about Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White called 'Tales Told Again'. Not for a contest just for fun. But I'm at a BAD writers block. Don't tell anyone but my sister is a great writer and I'm not that good at it. LOL. That is how it works. I NEED insperation!!!! I have a Pinterest board called, 'Lauren's Storyboard:Tales Told Again' which is helping me a little, but not much. Please help! do something out of the ordinary, such as the witch is good and the fairies are bad. :oshocker

Thanks for all the ideas but the story wasn't going anywhere so I totally ditched it. Anyway I've started a different story that it will post some where so people can give me pointers and stuff like that. And by the way I am out of town with no internet connection (I'm on my iPhone right now) so I might not post in a while.

I could make a new thread for stories or something. Or I could just post it on this thread. I'll figure it out.

Yeah... I don't agree with having a good witch. It gets a bit messy... Witches being of the devil and all.

Wizard of Oz is a childhood favorite, but I still don't like how Glinda is a good witch. I would prefer fairy or something. Same thing with Bewitched. I like the show and all, but I'd prefer they didn't call them witches or say they use witchcraft. It bothers me significantly.

All these sound so cool, y'all! Recently I've been trying various short stories and occasionally trying to work on one of my two novels in progress/editing a finished first draft. Yeesh. That sounded confusing...

I just recetly wrote a short story for the Five Magic Spindles Contest. My basic premise was: What if when Briar Rose pricked her finger the Prince fell asleep instead? Ooh! That sounds like a fun twist. My own is "What if the evil fairy declared true love's kiss to be what put her to sleep?" mine is what if the princess was a servent in her uncles court, and the witch was her aunt and her uncle helped her! (Uncles not much older than she is)

I don't have a title for it and i don't want to say to much about it yet. What i can tell you is that it is about a boy how lost all his memory and is being hunted. It is set in modern times small town with a si-fi/superhero feel

I'll probably end up putting a book on amazon when I get older but at the time I feel that my writing is a bit immature.

I have six books published, and one in the final stages of publication, all self-published. I like self-publication, because it gives me a the level of control that I like, but it is challenging, since you have to do everything yourself and you have to make yourself stand out from all of the hundreds of self-published works that are published EVERY SINGLE DAY.
It's hard work either way you do it. Basically, make sure you write a book that's as good as you can make it, and then put it in a box for a while, work on something else, and THEN come back to it and see how good it was. And then polish it some more.

I've published three books, all myself. Like the Arista said, it's a lot of work, but you get to keep the control. I like doing it. You do need to make sure it's actually worth publishing, though. Putting it away for awhile is a good idea, and beta readers are absolutely necessary.
