Okay so here is a thread devoted to discussions, topics that as Christians we can talk about. Remember to be polite to others who do not share the same view, okay I will start this with a question
As a Christian what are your thoughts on Halloween? Should Christians be participating in it? should churches be participating it in? what are your personal thoughts on it?
Once we get a few thoughts on it I will share my thoughts on it and then you can tell me wether you agree or disagree .

No, I don't think that as Christians we should participate in Halloween. Because no matter what way you look at it, it is still celebrating dark things - every little thing has some ounce of Satan about it. We try to make it light and have fun, but how can we walk in the dark and say we are of the light? I know that might come off a bit strong, but we have to consider all things. "Can we partake of the cup of the devil and still be of the light?" No. It's common to have Church's doing a "Fall Festival" in honor of Halloween, but it's still doing the man's tradition of Halloween, just in a church. And many say "But it's fun for the kids to dress up! That's all we celebrate it for" - but just because it's fun, doesn't mean it's right. Don't get me wrong - I really enjoy dressing up. But to do it on a day where Satan totally runs amuck because that's what everyone else is doing....doesn't seem right. So! There's more of my thoughts on Halloween. ^.^ And as always, just because these are my personal thoughts, doesn't mean I'm forcing them on anyone else.

Great thoughts BladeSpinnerRae ! and they are along my views to! As Christians we should be living a life that would bring honor to the Lord, not trying to slap 'Jesus' on a ugly holidays. Thanks for sharing !

Yes, exactly. When people look at us, they will judge us on how we act, what we celebrate, etc. and I want others to see the true Jesus through my actions, whatever they are.

Our church is having a chili cook-off instead of a Trunk or Treat.

Very good thoughts. Halloween is being slowly brought into Australia and I'm rather disgusted. I'd prefer that the walls and the dentist weren't covered in spiders even if they a smiley ones.

I don't think Trunk or Treats and such are evil, but I would prefer them to do picnics and such. Does that make sense?

I don't think so. I come from a outside position though. Halloween isn't a traditional holiday here, though it's being pushed commercially. Also I hold some slightly uncommon views of church. I don't see any reason churches ought to have anything to do with it.

Most churches do it to provide an alternative to trick or treating.

Slapping Jesus? No, that's not exactly what some of them do. My cousins have a trunk or treats to celebrate fall.

Yes. But id you use the slapping Jesus on Halloween, than it's the same for Christmas. It was a pagan holiday to worship the devil, but we turned it into a Christian holiday.

Well Halloween and Christmas are two different subjects but I'll take them both on. First Halloween: there is nothing remotely 'Christian' about it. It is a holiday that worships the devil and everything in the darkness, now what a lot of churches do is to have something on Halloween night. If you ask them what they are doing they say something like this "we are having an outreach on Halloween to reach the kids with the gospel." Okay that sounds good but when you dig into it you'll find out this "well they all get to dress up, but of course nothing evil, they get candy and they play games and at the end we give them some bible verses (or a little sermon that says why they should choose Christ)." So what they are basically doing is celebrating Halloween but throwing some bible verses around? So they are still celebrating it just with Christ in the mix, Paul warns us about that. He says "Do not be conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." now i am not saying that Christians shouldn't try to reach people on Halloween, but because Halloween is just another day, no what i am saying is that the church should not be celebrating it by doing pretty much the same thing except with Jesus on it. Why because it confuses the people. If we say we are different then why are we doing what everyone else it doing? We must live like Christ and not loke the world.
Now Christmas: a long time ago (and i mean LONG) the Catholic church saw all the holidays in December and said "hey we are celebrating the brith of Christ and everyone else something different, we should make it so that we all celebrat the same day and the same thing" so that's just what they did. It took awhile but soon every pagan holiday and titration was rewritten and now represented the Brith Of Christ. Now i am not saying what they did was good, no what they did was wrong. But they changed the definition of the winter solstice to now Christmas and the brith of Christ. Everything about it has been rewritten to be Christian, when you ask someone on the street they would say something like "it's a time of giving because some god dude was born or something like that." See what the Catholics did? They where successful in the rewriting of it! Now it is thought of as a 'Christian' holiday. Now every believe has to choose for them selves if they will celebrat Christmas or not, i celedrat it but i don't do all those old ' traditions'. I put of lights and a tree, i listen to Christian Christmas music. But i don't worship Santa. I don't put up mistletoe.
As you see Christmas and Halloween are two different things. But everyone must choose who he will serve and what he wil do

We don't do Halloween at my house, to the extent that my little siblings don't go to school when it falls on a weekday. I didn't either until I got into the older grades where a.) there wasn't a big fuss made over the fact that it was Halloween, and b.) Seriously, if I miss even one day of school, there is SO much work to make up : P And my church doesn't do a fall festivall or anything, I think there was one one year, but it was in November or something like that, nearer to Thanksgiving.

I'm glad you made a discussion for Halloween (though I'm a bit late). I think we as Christians should not celebrate Halloween. Why would children of light celebrate darkness? It makes no sense. I understand some people just like to dress up and get candy and all, but I still don't think its a good idea. That would be cool if we could just make up a new holiday for that... like celebrating light and good! Not darkness, death, and gross stuff. Seriously, my sister was telling me some stuff people do on Halloween, and how satanists love this holiday. It's disgusting, and we shouldn't celebrate it. Have a harvest party on another day instead.

I know what you mean! It's totally disgusting. I think that also if churches want to do something they should just have a sermon, we should be different in everything we do, when the people passing by see us they should not see Christians celebrating Halloween with Jesus. They should see Christians doing what they ate always to be doing. Living holy lives that would bring praises and honor to the King!

I'm kinda gonna change the subject, but I'm curious as to how many people are homeschooled and why? I myself am public schooled, and have always been.

I was homeschooled. Everyone does it for different reasons. Had some people from Nickelodeon and Disney in my group because they needed the flexibility of it. I was because my parents wanted to make sure i grew up with the right information (now don't get me wrong, i am not bashing public. In fact i had a friend who wainstead of being of being taught evolution lies and to do all they can to make sure i had A relationship with Christ.

Hey guys, great thoughts about Halloween and stuff! My family, personally, has never done trick or treating. A few times we've gotten together with family and just made fall/harvest food and hung out. But we don't like the idea of celebrating Halloween. Because it's just dark. Bad stuff goes on on Halloween too. I'm inclined to think that the dark forces that people invited close on this day way back then (in their pagan rituals and evil practices) and still very present during Halloween today. After all, supposedly it says in the Satanists' book that Halloween is one of their two most important holidays!! *shudder* I just wonder why Christians would celebrate a day that the Satanists so love??? Not to make anyone feel bad! I know a lot of Christians grew up with trick or treating, and just haven't thought about it much. I personally, the more I hear about what used to happen on Halloween, and what still happens on Halloween, just want nothing to do with it! But I'm all for doing a joyful, light-filled dress-up party in the spring or something. We could bake yummy things and share with neighbors and friends. Do country dances. Dress up in "other era" (or realm) clothing! Now that would be fun! And we wouldn't be copying yucky traditions on a dark day. Haha. My great ideas. Anyway, here's a blog post from author MaryLu Tyndall on the subject of Halloween that I found very interesting and informative. www.marylutyndall.com/2015/10/some-interesting-facts-about-halloween.htmlMistyofGreenshire, my parents felt convicted that they should homeschool me and my siblings. So we've be homeschooled all our lives. It's like what Ramulus said, to teach us from a Biblical perspective and all that. If I ever have children someday, I want to homeschool them too!

I've always been homeschooled. Probably the reason I'm homeschooled, is because public school isn't the best atmosphere to be in all the time. The government is corrupted, and they run public schools, right? So you probably get told a lot of wrong things. Like Ramulus said, evolution, and all that other stuff. And it'd be hard to not start acting, at least to a certain degree, like the other kid's there who had bad character, and pressured you to do bad things... I, personally, am glad I'm homeschooled, and I don't have to deal with that. And I'm not against public schooled people, so don't take offense! Just my thoughts.
